‘‘Addiction isn’t just chemical - it’s emotional, spiritual, and behavioural. For many men, the wrestle isn’t with the substance or the behaviour, but in the pattern that drives it.’’

Understanding CSLFBD - Co-Occurring Substance and Lust-Fuelled Behaviour Disorder

When addiction meets desire, something deeper takes over.

For many men, the battle isn’t just with drugs or lust alone - it’s the way the two feed off each other. This piece explores how substance use and sexual compulsion intertwine, why willpower alone often isn’t enough, and how genuine recovery starts from honesty, structure, and support.

Co-Occurring Substance and Lust-Fuelled Behaviour Disorder (CSLFBD)

Co-Occurring Substance and Lust-Fuelled Behaviour Disorder is when substance use and sexual compulsion feed off each other.

A man might use cocaine or meth with the intention to act out sexually. The euphoria from the high then reinforces the drug use.

Why Do Men Suffer With This Problem?

Many men struggle because using both drugs and lust together feels like experiencing novelty on supercharge - what’s known as a supernormal stimulus.

What Is Supernormal Stimulus?

A supernormal stimulus exaggerates how you’re stimulated compared to how you would be by natural stimuli.

What Is a Stimulus?

A stimulus is anything that stimulates us, such as:

  1. Sexual expression and desire (lust)

  2. Love

  3. Ambition, greed, or pride

  4. Music

  5. Friendship, family, and community

  6. Empathy

  7. Auto-suggestion

  8. Fear

  9. Vices

The Six Common Themes as a Result of CSLFBD

  1. Trigger - boredom, stress, rejection, disconnection, the disorder itself.

  2. Substance - cocaine as a substitute for relief

  3. Behaviour - hypersexuality

  4. Crash - emotional and mental burnout, including fatigue

  5. Shame - isolation, secrecy, self-loathing

  6. Rationalisation - “fuck it.”

Hypofrontality - What’s Really Going On in the Brain?

Hypofrontality describes reduced activity in the brain’s prefrontal cortex - the area responsible for decision-making, critical thinking, emotional regulation, and self-control.

When someone is in a hypofrontal state, the logical part of the brain goes “offline” due to overstimulation, allowing the more impulsive, reward-seeking parts (like the limbic system) to take over.

One way to look at it, the brain’s pilot - the prefrontal cortex - falls asleep at the wheel while the disorder takes the driver’s seat.

What It Looks Like

  • You are determined to stop, but can’t help yourself.

  • You can talk sense after the fact, but in the moment, lose sense of self.

  • You ignore consequences even though you know better.

  • Low impulse control.

  • Low self-esteem.

  • Trouble delaying gratification.

  • Preference for quick fixes.

  • Prioritising convenience.

  • No interest in long-term thinking.

  • And the worst of all - feeling uncomfortable in your own skin.

Breaking the Loop - What’s the Available Treatment?

After what’s already been explained, it should now be clear why willpower alone is not enough.

You don’t fight against the loop or conditioning - you take it one honest day at a time and outgrow it. That’s all you need.

How?

With structure, accountability, sustained support, and alignment - as outlined below:

  1. Awareness – Spot the loop, name it, own it without shame, and break down denial.

  2. Interruption – Remember why you’re taking it one honest day at a time.

  3. Regulation – Self-soothe with acknowledgment and compassion.

  4. Retention & Redirection – Abstain from porn and, if possible, practice semen retention.

  5. Reconnection – Let others in. Don’t fake it. Take better care of yourself and commit to one productive movement every day, like push-ups - even if you’re not in the mood.

  6. Integration – Your experience of being alive becomes a priority. You feel safe, grounded, and optimistic.

📈The Faqs

Q: How do I know if I have CSLFBD?
A: If the driving motive for why you use either coke or meth is to act out in sexual activity - watching porn. You have CSLFBD.

Q: Why do men often mix cocaine/meth and porn/sexual behaviour?
A: Both trigger large dopamine surges. Together they amplify the reward system -pleasure. Both coke & meth induce a huge influx of euphoria, which results in hyper sexuality. Porn or other sexual behaviour is then used to satisfy that feeling. AddictionHelp.com+2AddictionHelp.com+2

Q: Can I recover without therapy?
A: Clinical help is encouraged. However, many men find that working with a guide, a mentor or a coach as beneficial, if not more helpful, because a recovery/sobriety or life coach in general, not only has the knowledge or the expertise, but the ability to relate with their client, as a consequence of lived experience.

Q: How common is pornography use among men in the UK?

A: Among adult internet users, one study found that 91.5% of men watch porn.

Q: Is porn not healthy?
A: Not only is it unhealthy, its a massive problem!

Q: Why is porn a massive problem?
A: I would have to write a whole article on that to be honest. the biggest threat is that it compromises our values, warps our worldview and corrupts our minds.

Q: How do I know if I’m addicted to porn?
A: Addiction in short - is a mood changer. If you watch porn whenever you’re in the mood, or to self sooth and change your mood to experience relief- You are addicted. Everyday use is also considered as a behavioural addiction.

Q: How do I quit? I am addicted to porn.
A: The first step is that level of understanding, acknowledging you have an addiction. The next step is to seek to understand it. Once you understand it, the result leads to clarity. The natural next step is to then focus on what needs to be done about it, and how to go about it. Contact me, I can help with that.

Q: If I enjoy coke-fueled porn binges, recognise its now a problem & need to do something about it, do I have to stop watching porn?
A: Without question. Nothing will change if you don’t. See it as feeding the very lifestyle you’re trying to avoid.

Q: How do I know if working with you will help?
A: If you suffer from CSLFBD...Tffice for National Statistics

A: According to the united nations office on drugs and crime ( UNODC),316 million people worldwide had used illicit drugs such as cocaine & meth. The issue is that the volume in numbers are growing faster than polulation growth, and not showing any signs of slowing down. That;s a huge problem! Specially considering those individuals often struggle with serious health, legal, social issues, that effects their families and communities too

Q: Do I have a massive problem with enjoying cocaine/meth and watching porn?
A: Research indicates that 40-60% of individuals with substance use disorders report hypersexuality behaviour. Reasons being, because -

  • Cocaine or meth acts inhibits an aphrodisiac effect.

  • The combination of cocaine or meth with porn or other form of sexual behaviour creates a synergistic effect where each addiction intensifies the other.

Q: Why should men stop watching porn as part of addiction recovery from coke or meth?
A: Porn acts as a constant super-normal stimulus and it causes hypofrontality. More than that, if you suffer from CSLFBD, most men think they have a coke problem, although true. I’ts only a tool and an excuse for prolonged & intensified funny business.
